Meet The Largest Port In East Africa And The Country Where It Is Located

Kilindini harbour is the largest and deepest harbor in East Africa located in Mombasa,Kenya.It is 45-60 meters long at its deepest center.It serves as the harbour for Mombasa with a hinterland extending to Uganda.This port is managed by the Kenya revenue authority (KRA).

This harbour was inaugurated in 1896 when the construction of Uganda railway began.The construction Of this port dates back before arrival of Portuguese in Mombasa.In August 2019, expansion in the port enabled it to handle Panamax vessels.The expansion project began in 2011 with a total cost of 82.15 million USA dollars.The company that was contracted to expand the port was China roads and bridge corporation.A new berth,with 15 acres of stacking yard provided an additional annual capacity of 200000 TEU.The project increased the port throughput by 33%.

The port serves local business in Kenya and Uganda via the railway transport service.It has also provided traders with direct access to 80 ports across the world.
