LAPPSET Project Gets Major Boost as County Assures Team of Support

The county government of Garissa today assured the LAPSSET multi-agency team it will give all the support towards the implementation of the project.

Speaking during a leaders meeting with the Lappset team at Garissa hotel, Deputy Governor, H.E. Abdi Dagane, said the project will spur economic growth in the marginalised region and create hope and prosperity for the future.

He said the two days engagement with the Lappset project implementing agencies brought in the necessary impetus towards the successful implementation of the Road, Railway and Pipeline projects. 

The DG represented Garissa Governor H.E Ali Korane during a public engagement with the LAPSSET team. The meeting was attended by MCAs, MPs and the county executive. 

"We see the reality of connecting our region to other counties, as well as Ethiopia and Southern Southern, giving us hope of economic growth through trade and other related opportunities,'' said the DG.

He avered that issues of land compensation, job opportunities, corporate social responsibility and environmental impact assessment all needed to be put into consideration in the implementation of the projects.

He appreciated President Uhuru Kenyatta's commitment to the project and the May 2022 deadline he gave to open up the Northern Frontier Region as an economic growth Corridor.

The Deputy Governor urged the public to focus on long term opportunities of the project that was designed to give the region a new face. 

Garissa Senator Hon Abdulkadir Haji said water projects must be prioritized as corporate social responsibility in areas of the county affected by the drought and had no permanent water sources.

He appreciated the LAPSSET implementing team for engaging leaders and members of the public saying the move will bear fruits.

Chief Administrative Secretary, State Department for Development of ASALS Hon Abdul Bahari Ali called for the hearty support of the projects from both the local leaders and members of the public. 

Ijara MP Hon Sophia Abdi, Lagdera MP Hon Mohamed Hire and MCA's led by Assembly majority leader Hon Mohamed Gabow all raised several community concerns with the team to ensure the success of the project.

National Lands Commission Chairman Gershom Otachi flanked by the Acting NLC  CEO Kabale Tache Arero and commissioner Alister Murimi addressed leaders concerns on land compensation issues.

The Chairman of KeNHA Eng Wangai Ndirangu who was flanked by the KeNHA Director General Eng David Muchilwa, also addressed partinent issues addressed by the local leaders.

Garissa County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich, County Secretary Abdi M Ali, CEC Lands and urban Development Hon Habiba Nasib, CEC for Water and Irrigation Hon Abdi Omar, Deputy County Secretary Abdirashid Mohamed, chief officer Land Abdirahman Hassan, chief officer for special programs Mohamed Abdullahi and Garissa Assembly Deputy speaker Abdi Shakur and heads of the County security team were among several leaders who attended the meeting.
