The government through the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has sent a stern warning to all Kenyans while outlining the harsh consequences for those found flouting petrol prices.
In a statement to oil marketing companies, the authority warned all Kenyans engaged in the petrol retail business against flouting set petrolatum products prices as regulated by the authority in different towns.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority ( EPRA ) declared enforcement of a fine not below ten million to all Kenyan petrol retailers found selling the product above the prices set by the commission in different major towns. Retailers also risk a five year imprisonment if unable to pay the penalty.
"In accordance with section 99 of the Petroleum Act No. 2 of 2019,a person convicted of retailing petroleum products above recommended retail prices are liable for penalty not less than ten million Kenya shillings or term of five years imprisonment or both," wrote the Authority in a statement.
In addition, Oil Marketing companies have been warned to stick to the set wholesale prices for Petroleum products as set by the authority. Any oil marketing company that sells the products above set prices risks a five million penalty a per section 24 of the Act.
