The government has seemingly made an about turn on fuel subsidies after the energy and petroleum regulatory authority (EPRA) announced that a fuel subsidy will kick in this January.
According to the announcement by the energy regulator, the government will partially subsidize oil marketing companies to ensure that the price of fuel remains the same.
"The Government will utilise the Petroleum Development Levy to compensate oil marketing companies for the difference in cost," EPRA said.
According to the new review, Super Petrol will be retailing at Kshs 177, Diesel will be retailing at Ksh162 while Kerosene will go for Ksh145.9 per litre - the same prices as last month.
The partial return of the oil subsidy comes few months after president William Ruto announced that the government will be doing away with all types of subsidies with the exception of subsidizing production.

The latest fuel review comes as somewhat of a relief to consumers as the tariffs will remain the same.
