Video conferencing is among the commonly used form of technology in the workplace. First, video conferencing allows the users to be in different places and have a virtual face-to-face meeting without people having to move to a particular place to carry out the meeting.

Video conferencing is highly relevant to people who are very far because it save times, transport costs and accommodation costs if any. Also, video conferencing is a secure way of communication and this means that no one can access the video. Video conferencing also has its own disadvantages.

First, there might be network problems since video conferencing relies on the internet. Secondly, there can be technical issues and some people may fail to understand how to use video conferencing. Thirdly, there is less understanding and personal contact. According to psychology, 50% of the human understanding arises from the body language. Therefore, the levels of negotiations are also reduced.

Video conferencing can be used to build a rapport however; this can be more challenging when compared to the face-to-face meeting.  However, there are certain steps that one is supposed to consider for effective rapport building. First, one needs to look on the general appearance on the video camera.

Secondly, one has to communicate effectively. Thirdly, one has to create shared experiences and be empathetic when talking to other people. Video conferencing can be very comfortable to use especially when one is far. However, one should ensure that there is effective communication through considering the above discussed factors. However, video conferencing is a great technology in business and it is very beneficial especially when used well.
