Meaning Of Commonly Used Acronyms Like DP, WI-FI, PDF, USB among others

To begin definition, an acronym is an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word.

In this article, I am briefly going to share with you several acronyms and their full meaning.

1. Wi-fi

Wi-Fi, often referred to as WiFi, wifi, wi-fi or wi fi, is often thought to be short for Wireless Fidelity but there is no such thing. A great number of people connect to WiFi inorder to access the internet.

2. DVD

The DVD (common abbreviation for Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc) is a digital optical disc data storage format.

3. ATM

ATM full meaning is automated teller machine. It is an electronic banking outlet that allows customers to complete basic transactions without the aid of a branch representative or teller.

4. PDF

PDF stands for "portable document format". Essentially, the format is used when you need to save files that cannot be modified but still need to be easily shared and printed. Today almost everyone has a version of Adobe Reader or other program on their computer that can read a PDF file.

5. DP

It is the short form of display picture. Most people use this abbreviation when referring to the picture one puts to his contact on the whatsapp platform.

6. LCD

It stands for liquid-crystal display. It is a flat-panel display or other electronically modulated optical device that uses the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals combined with polarizers. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly, instead using a backlight or reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.


High-Definition Multimedia Interface is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from an HDMI-compliant source.

8. USB

It is the short form of Universal Serial Bus. It is an industry standard that establishes specifications for cables, connectors and protocols for connection, communication and power supply (interfacing) between computers, peripherals and other computers.
