Some years back, one could mention content creation as a career path only for people, especially your parents take a look at you as if you were speaking in tongues. Content creation was not as big as it is today. If you walk into the Nairobi business district on Saturday, and Sunday, you will be shocked by how big that industry is.
You cannot go more than 100 meters without coming across young boys and girls creating content for social media posting. Photographers with expensive cameras, and all the relevant tools required to take the best shoots, line up on the streets of Nairobi doing what they do best.
Currently, we have big names making lots of money in that industry. Take the example of Njugush, a Kenyan comedian who used to be a thespian in so many local tv dramas. He saw an opportunity and a bigger market in content creation. He grabbed it and now is one of the most sort after content creators in the country. Just the other day, he posted one of his fruits of hard work, a big mansion in Ruiru.
The Mkurugenzi show hosted by Abel Mutua a former thespian attracts a big viewership on Youtube. Abel has managed to attract different brands who want to work with him to push their products and services. Another big name on Youtube is Marwa, a travel content creator. He inspires many young people by how he manages to travel to different countries, and different continents to create content.
Many big names in the media industry after losing their jobs have transformed into content creators on major social media sites. They believe content creation is taking over from the mainstream media. As a writer, I believe that content creation is one way of generating good income. It might take time to have a name, and follow, but eventually, after hard work and consistency, you'll reach there.
