Netizens can take pleasure as Safaricom launches Kenya's first 5G network.
About a year and a half after beginning 5G trials in March last year, Safaricom announced the availability of the super-fast internet that will only be used on 5G-enabled devices, with the first target being its enterprise customers.
The company has announced the availability of the network and safaricom customers using 5G enabled devices can now enjoy the ultrafast network in the following counties: Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega, and Mombasa. By March 2023, Kenya's largest telecommunications company plans to expand its coverage to 200 sites across the country.
However, the service will be available at 35 active 5G sites throughout Nairobi. Safaricom also stated that the service will not be available on mobile data packages right away because the company is in the process of rolling them out.
According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa: "We believe in the internet's transformative power and will continue to provide cutting-edge technologies to enable our customers to live a digital lifestyle. The introduction of 5G Wi-Fi is the first step in enabling our retail and enterprise customers to begin exploring the new opportunities that 5G offers ".
