What? 600 Years of Chinese Bloodline in Kenya

According to legends, a team of Chinese sailors survived a shipwreck in Indian ocean waters and found their way down the Kenyan coast in Lamu island.Historians contend that the group of Chinese sailors as part of a fleet set sail sent by the legendary Chinese navigator Zheng He.

Six centuries later, these Chinese sailors' descendants are visible in Lamu, where the Chinese ancient maritime silk terminates. In Siyu village in Lamu, archeologists have discovered artifacts like porcelain and coins that were part of the Ming dynasty.

This Chinese blood has been believed to exist in Lamu. But it was in 2002 when Kenyan and Chinese researchers carried a DNA analysis test on Mwamaka's mother of age 65 and discovered Chinese genetics.

Soon afterward, the Chinese government offered Mwamaka a scholarship in China to study traditional medicine. Kenyan and Chinese archeologists have been researching to discover traces of ancient contact on the Kenyan coast. They hope to find the old shipwreck to help unearth all artifacts symbolizing ancient cultural and trade ties.
