Meet a Famous Kenyan who was Exiled to US in 1978 and Resided There till Today (Photos)

Exile refers to a penal expulsion from one's native country and secondary expatriation or prolonged absence from one's homeland. There are several people from Kenya who went to Exile in 1970's and 1980's when politicians were fighting against single party system.

Today, details emerged of a famous Kenyan author who was Exiled to the United States in 1978 for writing novels which criticised the then government wrong doings.

According to a post shared by Nation Africa on twitter, Professor Ngungi wa Thiongo was Exiled in January 12,1978 when he was chairman of University of Nairobi Literature Department. He was detained under the public security act.

Police picked him from his limuru home where they took away more that 100 books. He went to US upon his release where he resides till to date.
