Karen is one of the posh estates that is famous, not only in our country Kenya but Africa at large. Here you will not find ordinary houses but high end ones. The estate is characterized by wealthiest people in our nation: politicians, businesspeople etc.
But do you know where the name Karen originated from? The area was named after Karen Christenze von Blixen, a notable Danish author and farmer. Her large coffee farm occupied the land where the leafy surbab now stands.
After some years of living in Kenya, the European woman relocated to her home continent, Europe of course. She left behind a Museum which is also named after her.
Karen passed away in the year 1962, a year before Kenya attained her independence. From 1963, Kenyans and even people of other descents started occupying the area in large numbers. It is now a ward which is part of the larger Lang'ata Constituency under the leadership of Honorable Generali Nixon Kiprotich Korir.
