Africa politics

Missed chances for Kenyan literature.

People who reserve time to read and receive news about cultural activities can tell the sweetness of literature.Literature in Kenya has been growing slowly due to many unconsidered factors.south Africa is currently the most visible cultural host because of both the incident of apartheid and certain conscious, painstaking efforts spearhead by the government.I don't see why Kenya should be the only country to expect miracles in regard to the literature growth.

Government involvement in book culture has been very minimal.The only time it spoke was when the issue of 'moralism' was raised concerning Witi Ihimaera's "The whale rider".

Kenya has olso been affected by the death of great writers in the recent past.

The death of mwalimu Ken walibora.

Ken Walibora has been of a great influence in the history of Kenyan literature. He wrote many of Swahili tamthilia and short stories.Many remembers him of his experience and creativity in his work.He is well known for his books such as;

1)Siku njema

2)kidagaa kimemwozea.

He is also known for the short stories including;

1)maskini Babu wangu

2)Damu nyeusi

3)Nisikeni Papa hapa

Death of Francis Imbuga

We cannot forget the circumstances surrounding the death of Kenyan playwright,Prof Imbuga.we would be told that Imbuga had for obvious reasons preferred his 'The return of mgofu 2011 to Betrayal in the city 1976 as a set text.He must have been too disappointed to take a reversal of his wish.Thus in Kenya ,the simple task of set books selection becomes a coffin for sending authors to their graves.
