Dramatic Scenes In Bungoma As BodaBoda Operators Do This In The County Assembly

Drama unfolded in Bungoma town this morning when scores of Boda Boda operators demonstrated, paralyzing business and transport.

They eventually pitched camp at the Bungoma County assembly gate singing songs that castigated MCAs demanding that they pass the 2021/22 budget.

Erick Wafula their team leader stated that despite their children receiving the governor's scholarship they could not join their preferred schools because the budget has not been approved to enable the county government deposit money in various school accounts.

"My child is a beneficiary of the governors scholarship, she has been sent home because the county government has not deposited money into their accounts," he said.

He started that they won't tolerate the hide and seek games that is being played by MCA's that is denying them the development.

"We are tired with what is happening, we want the budget passed so that we can realize development, we will not be entertained by what is going on now," he warned.

Bungoma County assembly is yet to pass the 2021/22 budget owing to MCAs difference with the executive.

On Wednesday Assembly staff locked up the doors to the main chamber thus blocking the honourable members from stepping in to discuss and pass the budget.

They paralyzed operations protesting the planned amendments to the budget that would have seen their Sh120 million diverted to the executive to facilitate the construction of the dual carriageway.

The 6.5 Kilometres Sang'alo -Kanduyi road passes through Bungoma town and its construction is ongoing at the cost of Sh1.4 billion.

The amendment to the budget brought by Mbakalo MCA Bethwel Mwambu wanted the cash diverted from Assembly to the executive for other use.

Bungoma County Assembly was broken into yesterday night allegedly by pro Governor Wycliffe Wangamati allied MCAs, they wanted to hold the session at night to pass the budget by force.

The assembly speaker Emmanuel Situma had to inform Bungoma South OCS who dispatched police officers who dispersed them.

Boda Boda operators could not access the assembly precincts because enough police officers had been deployed there.

Health committee chairman in the assembly George Makari started that they will not allow money meant for health department to purchase medicine to be diverted for other use.

"Health is very important, there is no way we can prioritize the purchase of medicine then somebody wants to divert it," he said.
