Seven people, among them two women, are nursing injuries at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital following renewed inter-ethnic clashes at Nessuit in Njoro sub-County.

County Commissioner Erastus Mbui confirmed the incident adding that tension was high at Tiritagoi, Sigaon, Kapkarang and Sigotik areas in Molo and Njoro sub-counties.

He said violence pitting Kipsigis and Ogiek community members erupted on Saturday night and early Sunday morning and police have been deployed to restore order.

This is the third incident in less than a month pitting the two communities and has left property destroyed, people dead and others injured.

Land experts say the violence in Njoro and Molo sub-counties is directly tied to the Eastern Mau Forest Bloc evictions and long-standing land ownership dispute in the region.

Kuresoi South Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Mwangi also said security personnel from Nakuru had been dispatched to enhance security along Nakuru-Narok border in a move aimed at averting a spillover of the chaos.
