Man takes himself to police after stabbing wife 13 times and failing to die from Rat poison

Gilgil police have reportedly holding a 34 year old man known James Maina who is said to have submitted himself to them after suicide attempt with Rat poison failed him.

According to sources, Maina attempted to take his life after stabbing his wife more than ten times with a knife following a family dispute.

Josephine wangari 26 who is said be a nurse at psychiatric wing of Gilgil sub-county met her death on Tuesday July 28 through hands of his hubby.

They are said to have quarreled on Monday but neighbor intervened only to start it again on Tuesday morning according to their house help as confirmed by Gilgil OCPD Paul Onditi.

“The househelp said she heard Wangari pleading with her husband to stop battering her .At around 5am, Wangari’s screams faded,” said Onditi.

It's reportedly said after the screams faded, the suspect emerged from the bedroom with their 7 months old son which he handed to the house help before proceeding to the market with an excuse of buying painkillers for his wife.

Due to suspicions since their bedroom door was locked, the maid is said to have sought to know why it was so but was told to mind her business by Maina.

Sensing danger she called neighbors who forcefully broke the door only to meet the deceased lying in a pool of blood.

They called an ambulance but on arrival to the victim’s house, nurses confirmed Wangari had already succumbed to her injuries.

“He had, however, taken rat poison with the intention of committing suicide. So, we had to take him to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital first for emergency care before arraigning him,” said Onditi.
