DPP Haji Issues Arrest Orders Over Multi-million Corruption Scandal At The Kenya Ports Authority

In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered the apprehension and alignment of senior Kenya ports authority officials over the irregular payment amounting to Kshs.214, 548,340. 80 between October 2014 and March 2017 to Nyali capital limited that is managed by Jacinta Wanjiku Wambugu as general manager and Alfred Hinga Nyoike as Director, who are wife and brother respectively to the Kenya ports authority general manager, finance, Patrick Wambugu Nyoike.

Haji notes that Mr Patrick Wambugu Nyoike used his office to confers benefit of the aforementioned amount by facilitating the definition of the said company which was not one of the KPA suppliers as a vendor in the KPA vendor portal without the requisite authority.

DPP further established that Patrick abused the KPA system to remit principal and interests to the Nyali capital limited accounts after financing the KPA suppliers.

Patrick Wambugu also failed to disclose to his principal, KPA of his relationship to the Nyali capital limited was managed by his relatives which was a breach of the procurement law that seeks to avoid conflict of interest. It's on these grounds that the DPP has ordered the arrests of the 6 persons who are alleged to have been involved in the fraud. They will be arraigned in court on four counts of charges.
