Garissa governor Ali Korane Barred from accessing office over graft charges

Garissa governor Ali Korane was on Tuesday morning arraigned at the Milimani law courts in Nairobi over alleged embezzlement of Ksh. 233 million World Bank grant.

Appearing before Anti- corruption magistrate Douglas Ogoti, Governor Korane and for others were charged with a conspiracy to commit an offense of economic crime.

The charges we're that between February 25, 2019 and September 30, 2019 within Garissa county they mismanaged public funds allocated to the county government of Garissa as a conditional grant for the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) amounting to Ksh. 233,506,000.

Korane and his Co-accused denied charges. The magistrate released Korane on a Ksh.3.2 million cash bail and a Ksh. 5 million Bond. He was also barred from accessing office. The other accused person who are also county officials were also released on Ksh. 1.2 million bail. Also barred from accessing office.

The five accused person were also directed to deposit their passports with the Court.
