Bungoma Prison Break: 11 Criminals Escape Jail

Police in Bungoma are hunting down 11 hardcore criminals who escaped from a police cell on Saturday night. 

The fugitive are said to have dug a hole through the cell wall before crawling out and vanishing into the darkness.

They were being remanded at Bungoma Central police station.

But police officers noticed the escapees as they ran into a thicket at a nearby airstrip, according to Bungoma South OCPD Willison Nanga.

Nanga said the officers pursued and managed to apprehend one of them after shooting him in the thigh.

The injured escapee, who was identified as Isaac Wekesa, was taken to Bungoma Referral Hospital where he's being treated under tight guard.

The rest however managed to escape the police pursuit.

The police boss said they are facing serious criminal charges ranging from robbery with violence, sex offences and assault among others.

Those on the run were identified as John Wanyonyi and Brian Onyango charged with roberry with violence, Clerkson Otieno (burglary) and Simon Wekesa (assault).

Others are John Wekesa, Emmanuel wakoko, Collins Nyukuri , Alex Muyekho, Pascal Namasaka and Bramwel Barasa.

The police urged the public to report any sightings of the fugitives to aid their arrest and warned of dire consequences for those found harbouring the suspected criminals.
