Police Constable Isaiah Monda Ontita attached to Matasia police post, Ngong police station was arrested on Sunday, August 02, after detectives who were working on a tip off from M-pesa agents laid a trap.
According to a police report filed at Thika police station, the officer is find of using the National Police Service attires to defraud unsuspecting members of public.
It if alleged that the officer who is currently on interdiction puts on full police jungle fatigue uniform and targets M-pesa agents to make both ends meet.
On Sunday, August 02, alone the officer defrauded three M-pesa agents to a time of Ksh 124,000.
It is reported that on the morning of the said day, the officer while in full police uniform walked into Maizama Con Bidii Shop, an mpesa shop belonging to Jane Wanjiru.
He then requested to deposit a whopping Ksh 58,000 and after deposit, the officer claimed he has not seen an mpesa sms thus could not pay the cash yet an sms piped in and he deleted on its arrival.
He later moved to Jomarg Network M-pesa shop and applied the same trick where he defrauded the business owner of his Ksh 17,000.
The suspect didn't stop there and this time round he visited Mermay Thika Communication and stile Ksh 49000 using the same trick according to police.
"It was reported by one Jane Wanjiru, an M-pesa agent Maizama Con Bidii Shop that today a customer approached her in full police jungle fatigue uniform and requested for a deposit of Ksh 58,000 to his M-pesa account,"
"The M-pesa agent deposited the said amount then he begun to allege that his phone had some problems and disappeared before he could pay," police said in a statement.
