Bungoma: Illicit Brew Claims Two Lives in a Span of Two Days

Tension has engulfed residents of Bungoma north Sub-County following the untimely death of two young men drunk excess local brew.

Noah Shikata allia Seba, died on Tuesday, August 25, after he allegedly drunk excess illicit brew.

"It is alleged that the deceased drunk excess Chang'aa while hungry," an eye witness who requested his identity withheld told Opera News.

Body has been taken to Kiminini cottage awaiting for postmortem and preservation as the family commence burial arrangements.

His death comes barely a day after another man succumbed after he sipped four cups of special Chang'aa in Maliki area during an alcohol drinking competition.

Robert Wamtivi Nyeusi from Maliki village, Bungoma North Sub-County died on Sunday, August 23, 2020.

It is alleged that the deceased together with other five were competing over Ksh 1000 shilling note to see who will sip more local liquor and at the fastest speed possible.

"Robert Wamtivi Nyeusi sipped four caps of special Chang'aa and died on the spot as others competitors continued with their competition just like other sporting events," an eye witness told Opera News.

During the competition, the winner identified as Vincent Sabatia walked away with Ksh 1000 after he sipped five cups of special Chang'aa withins a minute.

The residents are now calling on the Interior minister Dr. Fred Matiang'i to intervene and crack whip on illicit brew.
