Police Officer Facing Years in Prison For Raping COVID-19 Patient in Busia

A police officer in Busia County is facing years behind the bars for allegedly raping a COVID-19 patient at Agricultural Training Centre (ATC). The incident that happened on Friday night has left residents shocked.

According to a report filed at Busia Police Station, Constable Emmanuel Ngetich was seen engaging a female patient in a suggestive manner, his action puzzled a fellow officer who went to report him to fellow officers.

When they returned they did not find him and they suspected that something fishy was going on. They looked for him almost everywhere before they heard noise and commotion from the women’s ward. When they rushed to the ward they found the constable in bed with the patient. “All the officers [thereafter] went to check what was happening. However, they did not find Ng’etich and the COVID-19 patient. [As a result], they became suspicious and started looking around. Several minutes past 10pm, they heard noise and commotion emanating from the women’s ward,” reports K24.

“The police officers rushed there and found all the female patients outside, complaining that Police Constable Ng’etich was raping the lady [she had earlier struck a conversation with],” continued the report.

The officer has since been disarmed and quarantined at the facility. He is expected to undergo COVID-19 test as investigations into the matter continue. Should he be found guilty, he may end up behind bars for over a decade.
