The body of LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo, alias Chiloba, has been removed from the MTRH morgue in Eldoret in preparation for burial later today.
His family, including sisters and brothers, and friends gathered at the morgue to collect the body before it was buried in Sergoit village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
"We are now on our way home for a family service and then the burial ceremony," his cousin Gladys Chiri said.
The majority of the family members sobbed inconsolably after seeing the body before it was transferred to a hearse.
Before the tour began, a family member led the group in prayer at the morgue.
On the outskirts of Eldoret Town, Chiloba's body was discovered in a metal box discarded near Kipkaren after being found dead.
The police are holding five individuals in relation to the murder, three of them are juveniles.
The main suspect among them is Jacktone Odhiambo, who cohabitated with Chiloba in the Kimumu neighborhood on the Eldoret Iten Road.
After a forensic investigation into the murder is finished, the suspects will be brought back to court on January 31.
