Sick Meru Doctor Narrates Almost Getting Fired Over Covid-19 Request

Since yesterday, the nation has been engulfed in serious conversations on the safety of doctors and other front line health workers. This is after the saddening death of Dr Stephen Mogusu yesterday.

The 28 year old doctor was said to have been without a medical insurance and had not received his salary for the past 5 months. This angered many people online and some doctors have subsequently been sharing their experiences online.

One Dr Bosire Wairimu has shared the experience of an unnamed doctor based at the Chuka County Referral Hospital. She has taken to social media to lament how the health condition of the said doctor has been ignored by her employers, despite her pleas.

The doctor suffers from asthma, diabetes and hypertension, which makes her a high risk person if she contracts Covid-19. The gynaecologist requested her bosses to assign her administrative duties, something that was ignored.

In fact, the Meru County CEC threatened to retire her on medical grounds, at just 33 years of age.

The Chief Officer for medical services at the hospital, Dr Evelyn Kaari Njue, acknowledged that in deed the doctor had valid concerns about her health but stated that there was no administrative opening.
