When Free 1000 M-PESA Transfers From State Will End

During this COVID 19 pandemic, The government has prioritized helping those needy families affected as result of this pandemic put food on their table. 341,958 households have since May been receiving weekly Sh1,000 stipends to cushion them from the dire economic conditions caused by the pandemic.

Measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 have disrupted informal labour markets and led to significant income loss for many low-income households. Few will have the financial resources to weather this storm, let alone provide additional care for loved ones in need. This is the moment for digital cash.

According to Publication by Business Daily Africa, The Government is set end this scheme in first week of October following revaluation by Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui,

Mr Chelugui told MPs that the initial Sh10 billion allotted for the cash transfer scheme was disbursed to recipients by the Interior ministry via M-pesa.

The CS said the weekly cash transfer programme aims to reach a total population of 669,000 households across all the 290 constituencies in the 47 counties.

There have been complaints from public however that some of those receiving the cash don't qualify exposing the level of rot in our society.
