Maghoha: Schools May Reopen Before January 2021

This afternoon, the Education Cabinet Secretary Maghoha, has hinted that there might be change on plan on reopening of school dates any time depending on the behaviour of the Covid 19. He said that the government is ready and willing to reopen schools even before January 2021.

In the past week, the positive Covid 19 cases have been declining in the country giving a limelight to flattening the curve and that could be a clear indication that there are possibilities of rescheduling the school reopening dates.

Speaking in Migori County during his tour of institutions to assess their preparedness, the CS said that in case the trend continues and the curve flattens, then his ministry will have no option but to relook unto the academic calendar."You are aware the virus is starting to look like it is going to stagnate,we are saying should the situation change,we shall be ready and willing to look at the scenario once again in the interest of our children." Maghoha said.

He insisted that it's the mandate of the Government to ensure learning institutions are reopened as soon as possible. However,he again emphasized that children should be given first priority of the safety when they resume back to school. He said the government was doing everything possible to source all schools with clean water, sanitizers and all requirements needed to curb covid 19.

On the other hand, Migori County Governor, Okoth Obado, requested the government to heist infrastructures in schools before learners returns back so as to be safe from covid 19. He also urged parents to take care of their children for this period they are with them.
