Roselyn Akombe of Kenya has been given the position of head of the Department of Peacebuilding Strategy and Partnerships at the United Nations (UNDPPA).
On Thursday, Akombe, who calls herself "an international civil servant," tweeted that she had been offered the position.
The New York-based United Nations Development Programme for Peacekeeping Activities (UNDPA) seeks to reduce the likelihood of war and help existing peacekeeping operations thrive.
Former IEBC commissioner Akombe, who left Kenya in anticipation of a new presidential election mandated by the Supreme Court in 2017, expressed her appreciation for the position.
"Patience, persistence, integrity, consistency, and hard effort are required. Things have been tough. There will be times when you just want to give up, but then you'll recall all the people who are counting on you to keep going. Hence, you persist in your efforts, "Then, she made a further observation.
At the Regional Service Centre for Africa of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (with satellite offices in Dakar, Senegal, and Nairobi, Kenya), Akombe has been serving as the Governance and Peacebuilding Regional Coordinator.
Until December 2022, she served in the role.
