How national youth service has created employment in Kenya.

Being an NYS service man helped me to know how it is a great privilege to become one of them. It was established in 1964 September by President Jommo Kenyatta with less than a hundred young people in Nairobi before it was moved to Gilgil district currently Nakuru county. The main objectives was to assist the orphans and vulnerable children of Africans who died during the fight of Independence. Train youth paramilitary lessons apart from firearms and later provide vocational courses example ingeneerings, catering, plumbing, capentry, ICT, fashion design which today are in charge of all military uniforms.

The beneficiaries of national youth service are already earning small allowance formerly started with 50, 98 hundreds and today they get paid a total of 1500 as 600 is saved for those who complete their terms. This decision of salary and 100% free college, has encouraged many individuals to get recruited due to inadequate of money spent in technical institutes.

Then once head of state inspect them after 6 months they a big number is accepted in different discipline forces such as police, forest and wildlife rangers, prison officers, army, navy and air personnels. As others go on applying for British using Discharge Certificates. Devolutions and cabinet ministries add them advantage when there's need of plant mechanics & operators, cleaners, drivers, civil, electrician and other specialist. Written by Eliud Newton Odhiambo
