The sad tales of Kenyan women working in the Middle East as maidservants has been making the headlines in recent weeks with many house helps raising complaints of being subjected to deplorable working conditions by their bosses.
One Saudi Arabia employer has however won plaudits after deciding to reward her Kenyan house manager for her commitment towards duty by recognizing the day she was born with a surprise birthday party.
In a video shared by former Aljazeera journalist Nelson Muriuki who is always privy to happenings in the middle East, the Kenyan is seen blowing candles on a birthday cake while background applauses believed to be from her bosses can be heard.
The lady who has been identified as Yvonne Akoth narrated to Muriuki that she had only been to Saudi Arabia for nine months but she has won the heart of her boss who repaid her with the kind gesture on her birthday.
Kenyans in diaspora and in the country have been reacting to this rare moment on their social media accounts.
