According to labour institutions act, legal notice number 25, the least a househelp should be paid per month is kenyan shillings 8,109.90. This is after a breakdown on how much domestic workers should be paid in different parts of the country.
A househelp should be paid Kenyan shillings 15,201.65 per month in cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru. On the other hand, the payment should be Kenya shillings 14,025.40 in areas like Mavoko, Ruiru and Limuru. In the rest of the parts of the country they should be paid Kenyan shillings 8,209.90.
Netizens have reacted to this act since most of the employers have confessed to be earning less than what they are supposed to be paying their househelps. Some in their opinion suggested that they should have a salary increment for the to be stable enough to pay that much to their househelps.
"That is what most of us earn, we need more" Helpus Nyakundi wrote.
