Salaries and Remuneration Commission is the only commission in Kenya that is mandated to dictate the salary pay for all civil servants including teachers.
Teachers across the country have been represented through unions such as Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers and Kenya National Union of Teachers.
The unions represents teachers by signing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA). In the 2021-2025 CBA, teachers are expected to undergo a pay rise that will see an improvement on their payslips.
According to SRC Chairperson Lyn Mengich, the commission is working hard to improve teachers' salaries in a bid to better their pay slips. Mengich added that the commission has been confirming and investigating the entries made by Teachers Service Commission to get a true picture of data.
This has been received as good news to all teachers in the country because it is a sign of hope on salary increment. This will see their lives change in terms of their livelihood.
