The first and most important condition is that you must have been a Kenyan citizen for at least ten years.
A person must also be free of dual citizenship. The sole exception is when a person holds dual citizenship as a result of a court order.
It is necessary to be a registered voter. Everyone's democratic obligation, like that of any other citizen, is to vote in elections, hence one must be properly registered as a voter.
The minimum age requirement is 18 years old. This means that any youth over the age of 18 can vote, participate in elections, and even run for MCA.
Before election day, one must be free of criminal charges and have not served time in prison in the previous six months. A good conduct certificate is required.
Any government employee functioning or working in any public sector other than parliament is prohibited.
One must be free of any snatching or misappropriation of public property offences for which they have been convicted.
A person must be a member of a legitimately registered political party or an independent member.
In terms of education, the constitution stipulates that by 2022, candidates must hold a degree from a recognised university in order to be considered for the position.
