Why It Takes More Than 4 Years To Become A Lawyer In Kenya

Law is one field that has professional who have high academic credential and that is why most of the times lawyers are referred to as legal minds.Graduating with a degree in this course is not a joke, you have to sacrifice a lot to read and acquire as much knowledge as possible so as to be relevant in the career.

Among the famous advocates in Kenya are: Otiende Amollo,James Orengo, Mohammed Nyaoga,Paul Muite, just to name but a few.One thing with this career is that you don't retire.No wonder you see very old people like John Khaminwa still practicing it.

After enrolling in a university that is recognized for offering LLB, one graduates but that is not the end of the journey.If you are interested in representing clients in the court of law you have to enroll at the Kenya School of Law for a post diploma in the Advocates Training Programme (ATP). You will spend about 18 months doing this,12 in the institution and six as a pupil in a firm or company, this is what it is called pupilage.After passing the exams then you are ready to go as you will admitted to the bar and you will be ready for practice.
