DP Ruto's Huge Retirement Benefits Earmarked For Reduction By the National Assembly

Deputy President William Ruto's mouth-watering retirement benefits are among those targetted for reduction in a report tabled before the national assembly.

The report recommends changes to the Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Act 2015, effected during DPRuto's first term in office.

National Assembly’s Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC) has described the benefits as excessive, thus desire to have them harmonized.

If it's to be effected, DP Ruto whose tenure ends in 2022 will be among the worst-hit deputies. This is because his lumpsum pay will be greatly affected.

Retirement's hefty pay is calculated equivalent ro one year's lumpsum salary, for every term served. In 2017, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) trimmed President Kenyatta’s monthly salary to Ksh1.4 million, down from Ksh1.65 million.

Deputy President’s pay was also not spared, after its reduction to Ksh1.2 million from Ksh1.4 million. Other than DP Ruto, others to be affected include, Mr. Odinga, Mr. Musyoka, Dr. Mutunga, Speakers of the two Houses and the deputy Chief Justice.

Immediate ex-CJ David Maraga who left the office early this year will also be affected.
