Blow To Bus Companies After This Latest Move By Kisumu County Government

In the latest move that will see most bus companies and passengers taken aback, Kisumu county government has ordered all the buses with their booking offices and parking slots in the city's central business district to vacate the CBD by 1st January next year.

While giving the clarifications, Kisumu county acting City Manager Abala Wanga told the bus companies to look for alternative stations outside the CBD. This is purportedly due to the ongoing beautification process being undertaken by the county government in the city.

The county government was due to build a bus station that would host all the buses outside the CBD in a move that was aimed to decongest the lakeside city.

The controversial move comes at a time when most towns and cities have been doing the same to transport sector, with the likes of Nairobi and Nakuru having tried to get rid of the bus companies and matatu operators outside their Central Business District.
