Qatar vs Ecuador
The wait is finally over for this year’s global showpiece as 32 countries will have their flags hoisted in Sunday’s opening ceremony!
Action kickstarts in Group A with host Qatar taking on Ecuador. For Qatar, their first stint at the World Cup is coming on home turf having qualified as host of the 2022 edition. Here, they will be banking on their current form which has seen them remain unbeaten in their last 5 games, picking one draw and 4 wins in a row. With this, they will hope to excite their fans and begin their maiden appearance on a positive note.
Meanwhile, unlike Qatar, Ecuador are no rookies here as they are making their fourth appearance at the most prestigious football tournament. Ecuador’s best showing came in Germany 2006 when they made it to the last 16. In this year’s edition, they will look to do better and push for a historic outing.
In the only clash between both sides in 2018, Qatar won 4-3 with at least a goal coming in the first half. To this end, we are expecting the opening half to also produce at least a goal.
Predictions: Qatar win.
