DJIBOUTI V BURKINA FASO
Minnows Djibouti are up against Burkina Faso in a 2022 World Cup qualification match that they will be hosting in Morocco. Going to the Group A game, Djibouti are bottom of the pool without a point while Burkina Faso are joint top with four points. Djibouti go to this game on three straight defeats, and have just one win in the last eight matches. In their last game in this group, they lost 4-2 to Niger. No team in the qualifiers at the moment has conceded more than Djibouti; in two match days they’ve conceded 12 goals. They have one clean sheet in nine matches and have lost seven of their last 10 World Cup qualification matches, while they’ve failed to score in seven of the 10.
Burkina Faso, on their part, are coming from a 1-1 draw with Algeria and will look at this as a game they should win with ease. They have two wins in the last five matches and in their last 10 matches they’ve managed five clean sheets. However, they’ve failed to score in five of the 10 matches. In World Cup qualifiers, Burkina Faso are unbeaten in their last three, winning two, and they’ve scored two or more goals in five of 10 matches. They also have five clean sheets in their last 10 World Cup qualification matches.
Prediction: Under 3.5 Goals
ALGERIA V NIGER
African champions Algeria will be out to extend their lead in Group A of the World Cup qualifiers when they host Niger in Round 3 of the second stage of World Cup qualification. Algeria tops with four points while Niger are third with three. Algeria drew 1-1 with second placed Burkina Faso in their last game, and go to this game having scored the most in the opening two rounds. They have nine gals and have conceded only once. Going to this game they are unbeaten in 14 matches and have scored two or more in eight of their last 10, while conceding two or more in just two of the 10 matches. In those 10 games, they have four clean sheets and in World Cup qualification, they have managed just two wins in the last 10, but failed to score in only two. It is at home that they are devastating in the qualifiers. They have just one loss in 16 World Cup qualification matches at home and in the last 10, they’ve won seven. In their three earlier meetings with Niger, Algeria have won all.
Niger go to this game having collected three points from a 4-2 win in Djibouti. They went to the break trailing in that game and only staged a second half comeback to get the three points. In their last 10 matches, they’ve led at half time in just two. They have two wins in their last 13 matches and conceded two or more goals in four of their last five matches. Four of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals and in their last 20 away matches, Niger have no clean sheet. They have three wins and 14 losses in those 20 away matches. In their last 10 World Cup qualification matches, they’ve only won three, and these have come against minnows Somalia and Djibouti. Niger have seven losses in 10 away matches in World Cup qualifiers.
Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals.
EGYPT V LIBYA
The battle for top spot in Group F of the CAF region 2022 World Cup qualifiers will see second placed Egypt play host to top placed Libya on Friday. The two north African nations are separated by two points ahead of their back to back clashes, hosts Egypt on four and Libya on six points. Egypt take to the game an 11-game unbeaten run, and have lost just once in 17 matches, and in the last five matches they have three clean sheets. They are unbeaten in 12 matches at home and in World Cup qualification, they have 11 straight wins at home. This is their sixth meeting with Libya; Egypt have four wins, four clean sheets, and lost in one of the six. Ahead of this game, they beat Angola but drew with Gabon.
Libya beat both Angola and Gabon in this group and they will be out to mete the same on Egypt. Before the two matches, Libya had suffered three straight losses, and one problem persists as they go into this game – they need to improve both in attack and defensively. Libya have one clean sheet in eight matches, and have failed to score in six of their last eight matches. In 12 away matches, they have just two wins and in their last nine matches away matches in World Cup qualification, they have managed just two wins. They’ve also failed to score in five of the nine away matches in World Cup qualifiers.
Prediction: Egypt win
