The weekend saw the Saints bounce back from a humbling 1-3 defeat on matchday 1 at Everton. This Sunday, they sit at their home turf and gave Manchester United run for their money, created better chances, yet came short and shared the spoils with the 1-1 draw.
Newport will be happy to have this fixture played at their home turf. What a way to welcome their fans for the first time to Rodney Parade this season.
The League Two outfit started their cup campaign in the previous round with a 1-0 win away at Ipswich. Meantime, they picked up 2 wins and a draw from the four league fixture played so far.
Newport had an excellent run in the Carabao Cup last season. They reached as far as round of 16, having beaten the likes of Swansea and Watford. Their run was ended by Newcastle United at this ground in penalty shootout.
Meantime, the Saints had little luck in previous edition of the competition. They were knocked up in the first fixture by Brentford.

The teams didn’t play against each other in recent years.
Newport vs Southampton Prediction
It is a make or break season for Ralph Hasenhuttl and his team’s display against Manchester United showed us he really meant business. They should win this fixture comfortable if the same team start at at Rodney Parade.
Hasenhuttl have many reasons to stick with the team that started on the weekend. One, but main reason is that he will be desperate to post a win on the board to propel momentum with an away trip to Newcastle on the cards.
The hosts are no pushovers, especially at this ground and we have seen this in the 2020. However, I seriously doubt if they have the quality to challenge a Premier League team, they were eliminated by last season.
