Sevilla vs Valencia
Wednesday’s action in LaLiga kicks off at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. It sees two of Spain’s most historic clubs clash and while it’s only a couple of years ago that these clubs were battling for Champions League places, the gulf in quality is now plain for all to see.
In a season when much attention has been drawn to financial mismanagement off the pitch by Spanish clubs, Sevilla continue to be a model for others to follow. Monchi’s recruitment and a good job done by Julen Lopetegui has enabled them to remain title contenders heading into the final fortnight of the season a remarkable achievement given the budgets the other three are operating on.
Even if they win, Sevilla would be mathematically out of the title race by the end of the night if Atleti win their game later, but they would still have a shot at finishing in the top three. Eden Hazard’s late goal denied them a fine win away to Real Madrid at the weekend but it was Inaki Williams’ late winner in their last outing at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan that really killed their title dream. Two wins from three their final three games will see them set a new record for their highest ever top flight points tally and they should get halfway to that objective here.
