Three Betting Companies Receive Licenses Renewal As Other On The Brink Of Closure From Government

Several betting companies in the nation are trading on dangerous ground as the government failed to renew their contracts licenses for the current financial year ending June next year.

Through a letter directed to the Safaricom's head of legal services secretariat, who are responsible for manning the Mpesa services for the organisation the chairperson for Betting and licensing Board indicated that only three betting companies would be allowed to operate in the republic.

The three companies have been licensed for an operational period in the 2022-23 financial year. The betting companies who have received renewals of licenses include: Betika, Pesa Bets Ltd that runs Betafrique and Silicon Solutions Ltd which operates Spotika platform.

This new measures come at a time the interior cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiangi argued that some betting firms have sneaked in the country operating without observing the new tax regulations.

The BCLB henceforth has been directed to ensure that all the new application for the renewal of license are in adherence to the laws enshrined in the Kenya Revenue Authority new directives with a strict observance of the financial reporting center and the interagency security team.

Some notable names that miss on the renewal of their licensese risking closure include: Sportpesa, Betway, Mozart Bet, Odibet Sporty Bet amongst others that have been operational in the country before the new tax regulation was passed by the finance minister early this year.
