What you need to check for when buying a used car in Kenya.

The fact that everyone wants to own a car is not very new. However, buying a brand new car might seem expensive especially if your monthly salary is below ksh 100,000 and you have lots of responsibility. Therefore some people may opt for used cars as they come cheaper and might have some extra amenities such as a quality sound system and even very stylish sports rims. Even though buying used cars is not that hard, there are somethings that you need to check before you begin your purchase. Below are some of them.

1. You should check for rust. Wheather the paint is still in good condition or not, it is always advisable to carefully look around and under the car for any traces of rust. This is because it can play a huge role in helping you bargain for the price of the car and it may also make you use a lot of money if it covers a larger section of the car.

2. You need to check if the exhaust system is complete. When it comes to exhaust systems, you really need to be keen on the catalytic converter. This is because this part is prone to theft and very expensive to replace. Incase you buy a car without a catalytic converter, you will have to part with atleast ksh60,000 to replace it. There are also some car owners who prefer to remove it before selling their cars.

3. You also need to check for accidental damage. When buying a lady owned vehicle, check the boot, suspension and any hits from behind. When buying a gentleman owned vehicle, check for any hits from the front and bonnet bars. You should also be keen on any weird modifications on the the wheels and shocks. Incase you find a car with a strut bar then you should expect more modifications because strut bars are mainly fitted in cars meant for racing and drifting.

4. You should also concentrate on the sound produced by the vehicle as it might help you know if the vehicle has any mechanical problems. If you do not know anything to do with the mechanical aspects, it is recommended that you go with your own mechanic as the mechanic of the seller mifmght not give you all the accurate information.
