Kenya's retired footballer, MacDonald Mariga recently shared a photo of his expensive car that is worth millions of shillings.
In the photo he shared, Mariga was leaning on his Cadillac Escalade which restfully occupied a parking lot of a well-known residential area in Nairobi. By owning the car, Mariga joined the class of former Nairobi governor, Mike Sonko, and other global leaders who enjoy rides in Cadillac motorcades and a convoy of protective vehicles.
The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV engineered and manufactured by General Motors. The Escalade was introduced in response to competition from the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Range Rover and Lexus LX as well as Ford's 1998 release of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project went into production only ten months after it was approved.

Macdonald Mariga joined politics in 2019 when he contested for the Kibra Constituency parliamentary seat in Nairobi County following the death of then Constituency's MP, Ken Okoth. In the August 2022 General Election he again vied for the same seat but lost to Peter Ochieng Orero. Orero, a teacher, and Mariga the footballer were the front runners for the seat which attracted more than five contestants.
Peter Orero contested on ODM party ticket and garnered 33,008 votes while MacDonald Mariga of Ruto’s UDA party garnered 20,049 votes and Imran came third with 18,901 votes.
In February 2023, MacDonald Mariga was among the 240 applicants nominated for the position of Chief Administrative Secretaries in President William Ruto’s government.
